Ask for Mary Ann

Posted by
sithenah (Greater Manchester/Cheshire, United Kingdom) on 18 January 2011 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

On the side of the Southampton Hotel, St Helier.

Mary Ann is not the landlady - it is the name of the local brew.

Imagine how unlucky, (or lucky) it would be to work at the hotel and be named Mary Ann.

Nice architecture. Reminds me of some we saw in Peru last year. I never cease to be amazed at the beautiful colors of buildings in UK cities now, as when I was a child everything was black and I thought it was their natural color. Of course it was smoke from coal fires.

The States of Jersey have just given planning permission to knock this building down and replace it with an office block.

How unusual. The staff must get tired of explaining it all to the tourists.
