Les Landes

Posted by
sithenah (Greater Manchester/Cheshire, United Kingdom) on 5 April 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Les Landes is Jersey's largest expanse of maritime heathland. The centre foreground shows the wetland area of Le Canné de Squez which attracts a variety of dragonfly species and is an important breeding site for the Common Toad. Right of the WWII German observation tower are rifle butts and the racecourse. Beyond can be seen Sark and other islands.

Beautiful...I've always been curious about these islands. I'm going to start reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" soon and am hoping to learn a bit more about the entire area. Lovely photo.

Hm, I was thinking that would be a nice place for a layabout until I read about the toads. :) Peacefully beautiful scene!

Love that landscape. Never been to the Channel Islands, but I have read the book Leslie mentions. It's a good read. That must be gorse in the foreground -- maybe heather further back?
